LEAF
The autumn leaves have fallen
Russet, ochre, golden brown
Upon the silver frosted grass
In this grey old town.
And winter sways bare branches
Against the cold, blue sky
And strangers wear cold noses
As they rush on by.
In the ground the root and sinew
Digs deep down below
Searching for some nourishment
From nature to bestow.
And in our houses we keep warm
Beside the flickering flames
Eating turkey, getting fat
Playing childhood games.
Now on the bough of every tree
The snowflakes come to rest
Drifting in the darkness
Hiding nature’s best.
And in our hearts this wintertime
It’s difficult to see
That some may feel downtrodden
Stressed, not fancy free.
So if that’s you this Yuletide
Feeling sad and blue
Having lost a sense of joy
In everything you do ...
Remember nature promises
A new leaf on every tree
And so I wish you hope renewed
Wild, abundant and free!
“For your every Winter I wish you Spring.
Like an unfurling new leaf
May you experience a renewed
and growing sense of
Hope and Joy this Christmas”
