Launched at Manchester Design and Craft Centre in 2005 “Limited Edition” set each participating member of Manchester Jewellers Network the challenge to incorporate colour into an exclusive range of 3-5 pieces. Rowena’s brooch range entitled “A Tree and its Fruit” took a look at the presentation and symbolisation of personalities, actions, moods and emotions through the use of coloured semi-precious stones. The exhibition is still on tour and copies of Rowena’s brooches are available to order as individual commissions.

A Tree and its Fruit
“No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit.
Each tree is recognised by its own fruit.
People do not pick figs from thorn bushes, or grapes from briers.
The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart,
And the evil man brings evil things out of the bad stored up in his heart.
For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.”
The Bible: Luke 6 v 43 - 45
What colour tree are you in the forest of life? Do you stand fresh and tall in the green spring of youth or are you a mellowing gold in your autumn years? What mood are you in? Are you red with anger or experiencing the crimson passion of love? Are you devoured by the green of jealousy or sending out the yellow rays of a bright and sunny disposition?
What fruit do you bear? Do you bare the rosy red apples of love and encouragement to nourish the passer by or the bitter sweet red berries of a poisoned slanderous tongue? And the company you keep? What colour are the trees of the forest in which you choose to linger? Surely those around us can add poison or nutrients into the soil in which we choose to send down our roots? What kind of tree are you and what colour fruit are you going to bear?
